RV Storage Bakersfield, CA

My husband is being transferred to Bakersfield and we have found a new home; however, it is in a gated community. What are some of the storage facilities in town and what kind of cost are we looking at? We prefer a facility in the Southwest that is where our new home will be.

RE: Warning/Please read and becareful

Definetly file a securtiy alert or freeze on your credit with the credit reporting agencies (Experian,Trans Union and Equifax). Keep a copy of the police report you might need it in the future. One thing I always do when grocery shopping is use the carts with the straps to fasten the kids in. Instead I use those to tie my purse straps in. I figure if is more of a challenge they may not be interested in me. The other thing is that I have a small wallet and usually put that in a pocket because the kids keep me quite distracted at the stores. As far a concealed weapon it is not so easy to get one of those permits in the state of California. The other problem might be is that the thieves would have probably gotten her purse and a gun also that was registered in her name. I glad you only came out with some bumps and bruises.

RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

FR should have agreed to pay for a rental unit. There are many rental companies out there where he can at least get a Class C and continue his vacation until the insurance settles the claim. Also, FR should cover the insurance policy deductible once the claim is settled. This is called customer service especially since so many customers and future customers are watching. FR doesn't need to buy another unit. These people will probably never deal with FR again even if they gave them a unit.

RE: Don't want too - but I might HAVE too........

Last thing to all the first timers and folks who aren't sure of their abilities in the gas pumps. You can always drop the trailer in a store parking lot and drive the TV to the fuel station. I've had to do that in some very tight spots (and low overhangs) when I got too low to go on. Juan I thought about recommending that, but if she is by herself I doubt she'll want to hitch up by herself.

RE: Don't want too - but I might HAVE too........

You still have a little time to drive the 5th wheel with your husband. Take a couple of hours and practice before you decide to take off. Once on the highway stay in the slow lane until you feel comfortable to pass anyone. I always look for my shadow to make sure I'm clear before I attempt to get in the lane. I also use my mirrors. As far as gas I am also terrified to go in. I've have been able to fuel with DH coaching, but I look for the station with the pumps parallel to the entrance. The ones perpendicular usually require a turn of some sort. Also if you have a diesel truck go the Flying J where all the big rigs are. There are designated lanes and you just wait your turn. If you still don't feel comfortable. Park the rig on the street take your gas cans fill them up and bring them back to the truck until full, but also fill them up one last time to take with you for additional fuel. Just my $.02 if I had to do it myself.

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

We have officially CLOSED ESCROW and my bank account has a boat load of money in it. It took a loooooong time to sell along with a 3 month escrow due to an incompetent buyers agent, but I am so happy it is SOLD. We are way too young to go fulltiming, but it gives us such financial freedom to do anything we want. Now we have to wait to see what happens with my husbands interview next week. Wish him luck because that means we are out of LA.

RE: Shared water toys etiquette?

Yes, send a thank you note. If you want send a gas card, but it does not have to be a large amount the gesture itself will be appreciated. We always appreciate it when our friends offer, but we don't always take contributions. If it is someone who is always generous with us we refuse to take any money.

RE: Parking in Los Angeles

What do you consider a scary commute? I'd tell you it will probably take at least 45 minutes. If you traveling on the 405 North it will bottle neck shortly after LAX until well past your exit in Culver City. There is also Malibu Beach RV park resort, but it is EXPENSIVE. Leo Carrillo state park in Malibu, but without hookups. Everything will be a drive from Culver City. There is nothing really close by to camp at.

Where to Find.............?

My 2 year old son is really into camping. Everytime he sees an RV he screams "TRAILER!!!" I'm trying to find any toy that resembles an RV that he can push around, much like all the trucks he's got. I prefer something larger than a Hot Wheel more like a Tonka truck size. I've done a search and can't find any. Does anyone know where I can find one?

RE: Tucson Dealer won't honor E-Bay Auction- Advice

I'm glad everything worked out well in the end and that Nelson RV did the right thing, but I'm somewhat appalled that people were calling the company and leaving nasty messages. I would never dream of doing that. I think you should name the RV..... Mis-bee-havin'

RE: Son here for summer, and he dont enjoy camping

Since this is a seasonal site is it possible for you and your son to stay behind one weekend and hang out. Make him invovlved in planning the itinerary for the weekend. Maybe with no one else aroud he might come out of his shell or speak more freely since he knows no one else is around. I just know I wouldn't let him sit all day long on his computer if I stayed behind. When he's at home does he also stay on the computer all day? Have you spoken to your ex about his behavior at home ?

RE: Campground suggestions for San Diego, CA

We really like to KOA. Been there at least 3 times and no problems. Good crew that runs it and everything is clean.

RE: 5.8 Quake

Felt pretty strong to me in Inglewood. I had a flashback to the Northridge earthquake. I was 2 miles from the epicenter in '94 for the Northridge quake.. Just a reminder for me to make sure I have all the necessary supplies to survive if the big one ever hits. Ofcourse, I think I already lived through that one in '94.

RE: Are you changing your RV life because of the cost of gas?

We've discovered more of the local campgrounds and have been trying to keep our trips within 1 tank of gas. (30 gallons)

RE: Tucson Dealer won't honor E-Bay Auction- Advice

I'm curious to see how the PDI went. Needless to say OP should never go there for warranty work. I'd be very afraid to go back. This has been a very interesting read and I'm in favor of the OP. There was a contract made and the dealer needs to honor it. No dealer would feel sorry for a consumer if he walked in and payed sticker price for the unit. As with car dealers, there are some transations that you make more money on than others. This one wasn't a money maker for them, but better to lose money on one transaction than to have all the negative publicity that this is caused possible ruining their reputation and future customers. More respect and business will be gained if they do the right thing. I have to call a friend of mine who lives in Tucson and ask if she's heard about this just to see if word got around town.

RE: Is Perma Plate Paintguard Wax Better ???

My husband loves the Perma Plate and has applied it to all our vehicles when new, never our trailer. He says he buys it online out of Salt Lake City somewhere.

RE: PSA Test Help

Here's my suggestion. Find a new doctor who will give you prescriptions for the lab draws on the PSA. Many lab companies like Quest and Unilab have many locations. The doctor should be able to fill out the necessary paperwork for the lab tests and your husband should be able to take the paperwork to the lab. You'll have to pay the lab fees. The only thing I don't know about and you'll have to confirm is since your MD is out of state will they accept a prescription from him in another state.

RE: Jayco Select vs. what?

All Valley RV in Acton also sells Jayco's. They tend to be a bit pricey compared to Richardson's. Their service department has been great even though we bought our rig out of state. Phone number is 661-269-4800. Hope this helps
